1000 Books Before Kindergarten

1000 Books Before Kindergarten is an easy, fun way to start your child on the path to success!  Read a book - any book - to you child.  The goal is to read 1,000 books before your child starts kindergarten.  

How it Works:

  1. Registeropens a new window online with your library card and PIN or visit the library to register.  Watch our YouTube instructional videoopens a new window for help registering online. 
  2. Start reading.  You can choose books from the library or from home.  Reading together is fun and will create life-long memories.  
  3. Track your reading.  You can track your reading online by signing inopens a new window to your 1000 Books profile. You can also keep track using the 1000 Books logbook.  If your child wants to hear the same story more than once, record the title each time you read that story.  The books we read in Storytime also count towards your total. For every 100 stories you and your child read, show us your reading log and you will receive a sticker and a new log book.  If you are tracking your reading online, you will receive a virtual sticker (though we encourage you to also visit the branch to receive the real thing).
  4. Share your journey!  We invite you to share your 1000 Books Before Kindergarten journey on social media.  Tag us @markhamlibrary and use the hashtag #1000books
