MPL 3D Design Contest - Create an animal!

3D Design Contest

Have you ever imagined how cool it would be if a frog had butterfly wings and a lion’s mane?

We want to challenge you to create a new animal of your own using 3D design! This challenge will run from June 1st to 30th. To participate you must be between grades 3 to 10 and submit your project by the deadline (June 30th, 2020 at 9:00 PM EST).


  • 3D design must have at least two distinct features of “real animals" – the more the better!
  • Participants must use Tinkercad as the design platform -
  • Participants can use pre-existing designs (ie: or design from scratch
  • The model must not exceed the dimension of 10cm x 10cm x 10cm


We will be choosing a winner from three age groups (Grade 3-5, 6-8 and 9-10) three winners will be announced and each will win a $25 e-gift card and the chance to 3D print their model on our Ultimaker for free!

  • Any York Region student grades 3 to 10 can enter the contest! We will be judging in three age groups (grades 3-5, 6-8 and 9-10).

  • The winner from each age group will win a $25 gift card (Indigo, Walmart or Amazon) and the chance to bring your 3D design to life. When our branches reopen, you can get your creation 3D printed on our Ultimaker printer for free.

  • We will have a panelist of 5 Digital Literacy Specialists looking at the creativity of the design, the precision of how the shapes are put together, the number of different animal parts in your design and if the instructions were followed.
