Celebrate National Reading Group Month

October is not just the month of Halloween; it’s also National Reading Group Month! This day was created by the Women’s National Book Association (WNBA) in 2007, to celebrate the joy of reading together. Whether you’re a seasoned member of a book club or considering starting one, there are countless reasons to embrace this month dedicated to literature and discussion.

Reading can often feel like something you do alone, but joining a reading group can make it into a community-building experience. When we read together, we open ourselves up to different points of view. Every member brings their diverse background and interpretation, contributing to our understanding of the story. A book club can make the reading experience more in depth through the exploration of themes, characters, and cultural contexts.

To celebrate National Reading Group Month, you can join MPL's book clubs. For more information, see here.

Joining a book club can be a great way to enrich your reading experience! Here are a few reasons to consider:

  1. Different Perspectives: Discussing a book with others exposes you to different points of view and interpretations you might not have considered.
  2. Greater Understanding: Engaging in discussions can help enhance your understanding of themes, characters, and plots.
  3. Social Interaction: It’s a wonderful way to meet new people who share your interests and build friendships.
  4. New Books/Genres: Book clubs often choose titles you might not pick up on your own, which exposes you to different genres and titles.
  5. Accountability: Having a set schedule for meetings can motivate you to read more regularly.

If you already have your own book club or want to create your own, we have book club kits that you can borrow. For more information, see here.
