What is Honour with Books? 

Honour with Books is Markham Public Librarys' gift-giving program that offers you a unique way of honouring a person on special occasions such as:

• anniversary,
• birthday,
• graduation,
• holiday,
• wedding,
• retirement,
• or in memory of a loved one.

While you are remembering those moments that mean so much, your donation will help the Library build its book collection. The new books will provide countless hours of enjoyment for our community.

How will I honour with books? 

Tell us the name of the individual or group you wish to honour, the occasion and date, and enclose your cheque payable to the Markham Public Library Board. You may also make your donation online by credit card.

Let us know if you would like us to purchase books for adults or children. Our staff will follow the Selection of Library Materials Policy in purchasing books and will select topics of general interest. We will not be able to fill requests for specific titles.

What will the donor receive? 

We will send you a card of thanks and a tax receipt for your donation. The minimum donation is $25.00.

A distinctive bookplate listing the names of the donor and the person being honoured will be placed in each new book purchased for every $25.00 donation.

• Donations of $25.00 - 1 bookplate
• Donations of $50.00 - 2 bookplates
• Donations of $75.00 - 3 bookplates, etc.

With your consent, we will include your name and the person you have honoured in the Message of Thanks to Donors. This message is posted in the libraries and mailed to all donors at the end of the year.

What will the person being honoured or the immediate family receive from the Library? 

We will send an "Honour with Books" card acknowledging your gift to the Library in their honour. The amount of your donation will not be disclosed.

If it is a memorial gift, we will send the card to the immediate family.

A Message of Thanks

The Library thanks all “Honour with Books” donors past and present.  Donors that have contributed a total of $2,247.49 between December 1, 2017 and December 10, 2018 acknowledged below including anonymous donors. 

“Honour with Books” is the Library’s gift-giving program that offers a unique way to honour a person on special occasions such as anniversary, birthday, graduation, wedding, retirement, or in memory of loved ones.  While you are remembering those moments that mean so much, your donation helps the Library build its book collection.  The Library has raised $26,635.60 since the start of the program.
