Learning Place Fall 2025 Programs

The Learning Place

Markham Public Library is proud to offer preschool and children programs which reflect the interests and information needs of the community.

Sometimes school is just not enough to cover subjects that matter. Using activity based learning, Markham Public Library provides children programs to help cover topics such as public speaking, math, reading, writing, and STEAM. Our programs provide opportunities to learn, practice, and build social skills inside the library in a safe environment for a great value for price.

S.T.E.A.M & Coding

From Game Coding and LEGO Robotics to Game Design and STEAM Adventures, these programs immerse kids in hands-on learning that feels like play. Children get to build, experiment, and create their own digital or real-world projects while developing problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking skills. It’s the perfect way to spark curiosity and boost confidence in science, technology, engineering, art, and math.

Math

Our math programs make numbers fun and approachable through games and real-life challenges. Kids strengthen core skills, build confidence, and learn strategies that help them thrive in school—without the pressure.

Preschool Early Literacy

Designed for little learners, these programs help children build essential pre-reading skills through stories, songs, rhymes, and interactive activities. It’s a warm and welcoming way to support early language growth and school readiness.

Reading & Writing

Whether it’s Writing Skills, Reading Skills, or other literacy-focused programs, kids strengthen their abilities through engaging stories, guided practice, and creative activities. These sessions help children build comprehension, expand vocabulary, and become more confident, expressive writers—while fostering a genuine love of reading.

School Help

From Public Speaking and Communication Skills to Leadership Skills and homework support, these programs help kids build confidence both in and out of the classroom. Through guided activities and practical exercises, children strengthen essential academic and life skills, learn how to express themselves clearly, and develop the leadership qualities that help them succeed at school and beyond.

Language Learning

French Skills

With programs like French Skills, Mandarin, and Cantonese, kids build strong language foundations through interactive lessons, conversation practice, and fun activities. These sessions help children improve pronunciation, expand vocabulary, and gain confidence communicating in another language.
