Markham Public Library Launches Inaugural Short Film Festival

Calling All Aspiring Filmmakers in Markham!

Markham Public Library is excited to announce its first-ever Short Film Festival, happening Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at Markham Village Library. This is your chance to showcase your creativity, storytelling, and filmmaking skills — all inspired by the library!

How to Participate:

To enter the competition, filmmakers must meet the following criteria:

  • Have a valid Markham Public Library card
  • Submit one original short film (maximum 2 minutes in length)
  • Films must be created during July–August 2025
  • Content must be library-themed or filmed in/around a Markham library
  • Any genre is welcome (excluding excessive violence, sexual content, strong language, or hate speech)
  • No copyrighted music, footage, or content

Key Dates:

  • Submissions Open: July 1, 2025
  • Last Day to Submit: September 1, 2025
  • Pre-Screening Voting Period: September 8–22, 2025
  • Film Festival Event: October 1, 2025 | 6 – 8 PM

 What Happens Next:

A small group of pre-screeners will review submissions and select the Top 10 films. These selected entries will be showcased at the Markham Village Film Festival, where a panel of judges will vote live to determine the winning film.

This is a great opportunity for local creatives to get their work seen, celebrated, and appreciated by the community. Whether your film is dramatic, funny, abstract, or heartfelt — if it’s library-inspired, we want to see it!
