Celebrating Hindu Heritage Month

November is recognized across Canada as Hindu Heritage Month, a time dedicated to celebrating and honoring the rich cultural traditions and contributions of Canadians of Hindu heritage. This observance was first proclaimed by the Government of Ontario in 2016 and followed by the Government of Canada in 2022, reflecting a growing recognition of the vibrant Hindu community within our country.

Today, more than 830,000 Canadians, and approximately 5,000 residents in Markham, identify as having Hindu heritage. Hindu Heritage Month provides an opportunity to learn about and appreciate the values, customs, and achievements of this diverse community, which has played an important role in shaping Canada’s social, cultural, and economic landscape.

This November, discover and celebrate Hindu culture through reading and learning. Explore books by Hindu Canadian authors to gain unique insights, and dive into resources that highlight the traditions, history, and philosophy of Hinduism.
