Don't you love eBooks? Every March we celebrate National Read an eBook Month! Now in it's 20th year Read an eBook month began when author Rita Toews proposed it to her local library as an opportunity to build awareness and promote digital reading. Since then the popularity of eBooks has soared and many people are taking advantage of the convenience and benefits of e-reading.
Here's why you want to pick up an eBook and participate in National Read an eBook Month with MPL:
- Convenience: Read an e-book anywhere! eBooks are portable, available at your fingertips. You can download them on your phone, eReader or tablet and bring them anywhere. As much as we'd love to see you at the Library, there's no need to leave the comfort of your home. You can browse our eBook collection on Overdrive and Hoopla 24x7. Download the Libby app here to access books on your mobile devices. If you need any help getting started, book a free one-on-one session to learn how to use Libby by emailing us here, opens a new window.
- Easy to Read Text: Stop struggling to read small font! eBooks allow you to change the font size to make the font bigger and easier to read. When you read books on your devices, you can make it easier to read by increasing brightness and contrast of your screen. You can also adjust the reading speed for eAudiobooks.
- No need for a bookmark: Never lose your spot again! When you read an eBook, it saves your spot so that the next time you pick up your device and access the eBook, you can start at the page you left off.
- Great Selection: Your library card gives you free access to a large and growing selection of books (and audiobooks, movies, graphic novels). Our partnership with OverDrive and the libraries in Vaughan and Richmond Hill let's you borrow titles from their OverDrive collection with your MPL card if we don't have the title.
