Exciting news! Starting January 2, 2026, MPL will be eliminating late fines for all adult and senior customers.
We removed late fines for kids and teens in 2021, and now we’re excited to extend the same stress-free borrowing experience to adults and seniors. At MPL, we believe library access should feel welcoming, easy, and worry-free. Removing late fines supports our commitment to equitable and inclusive service for everyone in our community.
While daily late fees will no longer be charged, fees related to lost or damaged items will still apply.
What This Means When You Borrow From MPL:
- No more daily late fines on eligible accounts.
- Automatic renewals will be applied to all eligible items before their due date. Some items are not renewable.
- Due date reminders will be sent 2 days before items are due.
- Overdue reminders will be sent if an item hasn’t been returned.
- Replacement fees will be charged for lost items. Items are considered lost if they are not returned within 14–21 days after the due date (timing depends on the type of item).
- Accounts owing more than $20 will be temporarily suspended.
- Fees for damaged items still apply.
