For your convenience, fees on your account can be paid online. Online payments can only be made with major credit cards (Visa or Master Card). See MPL’s guide to Making An Online Payment [PDF] to get started. Please note there is a $5 minimum for online payments.
You may also make your payments at your local branch by cash, Interac (debit), or credit card.
You will need to pay service charges in these situations:
- You return an item after its due date
- You lose your library card
- Your cheque is returned NSF (non-sufficient funds)
- You lose or damage library items
- You use a fee-based service
Your account will be suspended and you will not be able to borrow items if:
- You owe more than $20 in service charges
- You have 10 or more items marked “claimed returned”
Late Return Charges
Kids and teens are not charged for any late returns. Late return charges still apply to all other types of accounts. This fee is applied when library materials are not returned by their due date.

Lost Library Cards
You must report a lost library card immediately. This will prevent other people from using your card. A $2 service fee will be charged to replace a lost card.
Damaged or worn-out cards will be replaced for free.
NSF Cheques
If your cheque to us is returned “NSF”, you will be charged a $49.00 administration fee.
Lost or Damaged Items
If you lose or damage a library item, a replacement fee will be charged. Replacement fees are applicable to all lost or damaged materials, including peripherals such as MPL bags, RFID tags, library barcodes, and plastic sleeves for tags.
Items that are overdue for more than 3 weeks will be considered lost (some items may be marked lost earlier, please refer to the chart above). The replacement fee will vary depending on the item. We cannot accept replacements for lost items. All payments are final.
Third-Party Material Recovery Agency
MPL uses a third-party material recovery agency for customers with long overdue, unpaid bills of $40 or over on their library account. A non-refundable administration fee of $15 is automatically added to any customer account sent to the third-party agency.
