Shaping the Future of MPL: Community Consultations at Angus Glen and Aaniin

MPL recently hosted two more community consultation sessions to help guide the development of our new strategic plan. On Saturday, July 19, we met with a group of community members at Angus Glen Library, followed by another session at Aaniin Library on Monday, July 21.

At each session, we asked community members to reflect on a few questions and share their thoughts with us:
• What are your goals over the next 3 to 5 years?
• Where are you currently on your life journey?
• What barriers might stand in the way of achieving your goals?
• What supports or resources would help you overcome them?

The conversations were heartfelt, honest, and deeply insightful. We heard from people of all ages and walks of life, and several recurring themes stood out:
• Concerns about economic instability and affordability
• A strong desire for safer, more welcoming community spaces
• The everyday challenges of raising children in a balanced, healthy way
• The impact of screen time and the need for meaningful social development for kids
• A growing focus on long-term planning—from retirement to sustainable living

These shared experiences and perspectives are invaluable as we shape a vision for MPL’s future. We’re incredibly thankful to everyone who took the time to participate and share so openly. Your voices are helping us craft a strategic plan that truly reflects the hopes, needs, and realities of the Markham community.

We have a few more community consultation meetings coming up. Join us to share your thoughts, enjoy free pizza and a chance to win a gift card from Loblaws.
