Fiero Code is an online platform offered by Markham Public Library that teaches coding skills to people of all ages. Originally intended for children's coding education, Fiero Code employs an interactive and intuitive learning interface where users can learn coding through multi-media content, write their own code in the browser, and execute it immediately to observe the results.
Learning to code is a great way to learn something new, develop analytical and problem-solving skills, and build new things using your creativity. Fiero Code makes this process simple, enjoyable and effective. Below are a few fun ways that you can use Fiero Code for your learning journey:
Learn On-Demand AI Skills
Since advanced AI models became mainstream, Fiero Code has been offering a number of AI-focused courses, from AI core skills to vide coding. Through these courses, you can gain a solid understanding of AI through reading, watching videos, and doing hands-on AI prompts through an integrated AI interface. To access these courses, simply log in to Fiero Code and go to "Learn > Courses".
If used correctly and efficiently, AI can offer great assistance to your day-to-day life, from travel directions and hotel recommendations to analyzing complicated data at work.
Learn to Code with a Live Instructor
Every two weeks, you can join a live session with a Fiero Code instructor and code along with them during the session. This is a great opportunity to see how coding works in a live environment, with an instructor that shows you the steps and can answer any questions you may have. Currently the sessions are on every other Wednesday at 6PM EST (time and date may change in the future). Check out these live events in the "Events" section of the Fiero Code home page!
Enter a Competition and Win Real Prizes!
Every few months, you can join a coding competition held online and win prizes that will be mailed to you. Recent prizes include Bose Headphones, Amazon Gift Cards, and Maker/Robotics kits. One of the past winners was actually a coder from Markham Public Library!
To see the current competitions, go to the "Contests" section of the Fiero Code website. Simply read the instructions, build your code and submit it before the contest ends (usually within two months). You may be the next winner among all the users!
How to Get Started with Fiero Code
To access Fiero Code, simply follow the steps below:
- Go to the MPL website and go to "E-Library > A-Z eResources";
- Find Fiero Code under "F" and click on the link.
- Follow the instructions shown on the next page to create your account.
