The Love of Reading

There is a famous expression which is, "We all have busy lives." Part of this busy life can include not having enough time to sit down and read a book. It is important to remember that even when you are not reading a book, you are still reading no matter what. Reading does not only involve reading a book. Reading takes place around us, and this can include reading street signs, posters, etc. This shows that reading is a powerful tool that everyone can see and use in their daily lives.

This year's Markham Read’s book is titled Restaurant Kid: A Memoir of Family and Belonging written by Rachel Phan. Markham Reads offers many programs for patrons to enjoy that are inspired by their selected title of the year. It is about coming together to read as a community and celebrate the love of reading; something that many people enjoy. This can look like attending programs whether it is to discuss a book or attend an author's discussion talk.

By getting involved with your local library, this will give you an opportunity to meet members of your community, form connections, and learn something new. It also gives many people an opportunity to tell their story and how that one book resonates with them. 

Overall, there are many ways that you can get involved with your community, and that can start with turning a page.
