5 Reasons to Join the Summer Reading Club

The TD Summer Reading Club is Canada’s biggest bilingual summer reading program for children from preschool to grade 8. Kids can attend meetups at local branches, track their reading, complete challenges, and win prizes. Registration opens in June. For more information on how to register, check out our SRC webpage

Here are 5 reasons why you should enroll your child(ren) to this year's SRC!

1. Win gift cards and more!

Every week, MPL is giving away a $20 gift card to one lucky SRC participant. To enter, complete a bingo challenge sheet on the Beanstack app or at your local Markham branch.

After completing all 12 bingo challenges, participants will be entered into a draw for the grand prize — their choice of:

  • a $100 Indigo gift card
  • a Kiimento Camera
  • Air Toobz
  • a Botley 2.0 Robot
  • or a 100-piece Magnetic Tiles set

2. Super Fun Launch Party!

Every year, MPL hosts a big launch party to celebrate the start of SRC. In the past, we’ve invited special guests such as Mad Science and Reptilia.

This year’s launch party is on Saturday, June 13 at Cornell Library. Stay tuned to find out who our special guest will be!

3. Prevent the "summer melt"

A Harvard study shows that children who read over the summer can prevent the “summer melt,” an academic slide that happens when students are not engaged during the break.

The goal isn’t to make reading feel like a chore — it’s to make it fun and engaging. And what better way to do that than by joining SRC and participating in exciting literacy activities that motivate kids to keep reading.

4. Improve Imagination and Emotional skills!

Reading regularly helps children strengthen their ability to concentrate for longer periods. Summer is a great time to practice focus, with fewer school-related distractions.

Books also act as windows into different worlds, helping children explore new cultures, experiences, and ideas — all while activating their imagination.

With this year’s theme, DIVE IN, be sure to check out TD’s official reading list!

5. Make new friends!

Every branch will offer unique and fun activities and meetups for SRC participants, creating perfect opportunities for children to make new friends and build connections.
