New at MPL: Literacy Kits Bring Stories to Life

Markham Public Library is excited to introduce Literacy Kits, a new collection designed to help children and caregivers read, play, and learn together.

Each Literacy Kit includes a children's book paired with character toys that bring the story to life. Families can read the book together, talk about the characters, act out favourite scenes, and create their own adventures through imaginative play.

Literacy Kits make reading more interactive while helping children develop important early literacy skills, including vocabulary, language development, storytelling, print awareness, and creativity. They also encourage meaningful caregiver-child interactions, helping create positive reading experiences that support a lifelong love of books.

Whether you're discovering a new story or revisiting a favourite, Literacy Kits offer a fun and engaging way to extend learning beyond the page.

Literacy Kits help children:

  • Enjoy books and reading
  • Learn new words
  • Build language and communication skills
  • Understand and retell stories
  • Develop imagination and creativity
Ready for your next reading adventure? Literacy Kits can be borrowed from our Cornell and Aaniin branches. Stop by either location to pick one up.
